Meet Karim; he’s a Senior Solutions Professional at SysGen Solutions Group. Karim is a key player in SysGen’s delivery of IT support beyond the network. He’s also a virtualization expert as a VMware Certified Advanced Professional and is largely responsible for attaining SysGen’s VMware Enterprise status.
We recently sat down with Karim to get an expert’s take on virtualization and how it’s shaking up the business world. Read on to gain insight into virtualization with Karim’s Q&A.
WHAT IS VIRTUALIZATION?
Virtualization is the leveraging of technology to reduce operating costs and management overhead. Virtualizing physical machines to run as software on a virtual platform gives you the ability to consolidate and lower the number of physical machines in your environment. Therefore, lowering the costs associated with the management, cooling, and replacement of hardware.
WHAT MAKE THIS TECHNOLOGY UNIQUE?
It’s a relatively new technology and one that changes very frequently, demanding constant vigilance and the desire to constantly learn and grow.
WHAT DRAWS YOU TO VIRTUALIZATION?
Virtualization requires a broad skill set, and at the same time, a very specific knowledge of the virtualization platform that you are using; giving one a sought-after and desirable skillset.
WHAT KIND OF TRAINING DO YOU HAVE IN VIRTUALIZATION?
I’m currently a VMware Certified Advanced Professional. My hopes are to become one of the 200 VMware Certified Design Experts in the world.
HOW HAVE YOU GOTTEN TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?
I was lucky enough to begin my career with a start-up that had one of the largest companies in the world as a client. I was an integral part of the initial virtualization of the company’s business units during its expansion and re-launch, which gave me immense exposure to enterprise-level technologies at the beginning of my career.
YOU WERE A CRUCIAL PART IN ACHIEVING SYSGEN’S VMWARE ENTERPRISE STATUS. HOW DID YOU ACCOMPLISH THIS?
I was very tenacious with certifications and online courses to meet VMware requirements. SysGen has chosen to focus on the cloud to move its clients forward. It’s the next technological evolution and it’s the direction the world is headed.
Most companies are looking at physical hardware ownership as a thing of the past. Companies are looking for a way to reduce capital expenditures and working-hours, and moving data to the cloud is a way to do just that. By providing virtualization services, SysGen is giving clients exactly what they are looking for.
WHAT DOES SYSGEN’S VMWARE CERTIFICATION MEAN FOR CLIENTS?
SysGen’s certification assures our clients that we’re trained and knowledgeable in virtualization and that we abide by VMware best practices in everything we do.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR VISION FOR SYSGEN’S VMWARE PRACTICE?
I envision SysGen’s VMware practice as a holistic one-stop-shop when it comes to all things VMware. We will have in-house expertise and ongoing training for our staff. We will architect, deliver, and remedy all VMware proposals and related projects that come to SysGen. We will develop marketing and training materials, which will aid SysGen in sharing expertise with clients.

I come from a background of helping companies of different sizes gain control and leverage IT departments to attain a very specific business goal.
